My First Journey from Semarang to Purwokerto

I still remember that time, I didn't go home. I must went to Purwokerto, because my mother and my young sisters would go to Jakarta. They would visit my grandma and also to vacation. Finally, I decided to stay at my uncle's house in Purwokerto for a week until my mother has already gone home. It was my first timewent to Purwokerto to Semarang. At first I felt scare to went there, fortunately there are my friends from Purwokerto. I went there with them by bus. Firstly, my friends and I must went to Ungaran by public transportation to got the bus. We had to be patient to waited the bus come. On the trip, I felt the weather so cold and it has already made me vomit in the bus. After seven hours on the trip, we have already arrived there at 01.00 a.m. It really made me exhausted and that moment will be unforgetable moment for me.

Nonverbal Communication

1 Nonverbal communication or body language is used everywhere in the world. It is a very powerful means of communication because it communicates much more than spoken words.

2 One example of nonverbal communication occurs between parents and child. When parents smile at their child, they communicate love, acceptance, and reassurance. The child feels comfortable and safe because of the smile which signifies approval; therefore, the child is happy and well adjusted. 

3 Another example of nonverbal communication is the image which a person shows in public; for example, a woman is walking alone on an unfamiliar and possibly dangerous street. She wants to appear confident by walks quickly although she may be tired. She walks with her shoulders straight, her head held high, and her eyes are focused straight ahead. When someone is looking at her, she returns the glance without hesitation; in contrast, a nervous woman who appears afraid walks slowly with her shoulders and eyes down.

4 Indeed, body language can express more than spoken language by raising an eyebrow, clenching a jaw, or softening the eyes. It is a very strong method of communication because a person can express disapproval, anger, or love.

Equal Rights for Women

Russian women started to gain equality earlier than women in the United States. In the former Soviet Union, men and women had access to equal education and job opportunities since that reflected the Soviet philosophy. After 1937, when the Soviet constitution declared that women and men had equal rights and responsibilities, women joined the workforce. Also, because millions of Russian men were away in the military during World War II, Russian women filled their places at work. Although Soviet women worked fulltime at their jobs, they also had the primary responsibility for taking care of the family. As soon as they finished their work, they had to shop, cook the evening meal, and perhaps wash, iron, or mend the family's clothes. U.S. women started to demonstrate that they could do the work of men during World War II.

Family is My Everything for Me

Encouragement in my life is family, and family always supported my dream. I usually think my family at home, so I will be calling my mother as much as possible on Saturday. I have chose this university for continue my education especially in English lecture; therefore, I should be able survive with the environment here. I choose Semarang State University, for the cost of living is relatively low;there are many families of my mother. Although I am far away from my mother, I was a bit lucky to still there are my brother and my uncles. I am happy to go to college here, because I go to college paid for by the government in a program called Bidik Misi. My mom might be a little relieved, because I can stay in school without paying. I can be like this because of my family who have always encouraged me to learn. I'm also continuing my education for my family's future, and I want to change the economic life of my family. Family is my everything for me.
